Lauds for Lent
Thank God Lent comes around once a year, offering the opportunity to find our way back to center.
My Lenten project this year is recording the morning Liturgy of the Hours – the praying of which I love, but had fallen away from recently – the sharing of which helps make me accountable. Follow along, chant along or respond however you’d like. I like listening first thing in the morning during my holy hour, and on long walks. The chant tones are repetitive and easy to learn - there's one set for Weeks I and III, and another set for weeks II and IV. These are the Morning Office readings, Monday through Saturday, for the season of Lent 2021 and are arranged newest – to – oldest, beginning top left. The text is from the Universalis app ( http://www.universalis.com), and I'm chanting the tones from the Mundelein Psalter (Highly recommended for anyone interested in pursuing the chanting of the Office beyond this offering). Due to time constraints on the video length, I leave you to insert the Psalm prayers as desired. The concluding hymn will change every Monday. While these recordings are not performances, they are my real prayers and I try to make them as pleasing to God as possible - y'hi ratzon lefanecha - may the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable to you, O God - sometimes my voice is not that great at 5am. I hope my humble offering blesses you as much as it does me.

Update, May 2021: Immersing myself in the Psalms has changed my life so thoroughly - all I will say is that I was a wreck at the beginning of Lent 2021 and now I'm not - that I have continued through Eastertide and will continue on to Ordinary Time. My next project will be to add Compline, perhaps my favorite prayers and melodies of the day. I have also begun a gallery of songs and hymns I have composed.
