Lawrence, Massachusetts

I pass Lawrence on Sundays when I drive up 495 to Haverhill to teach. I've been curious about this city, with its old mill buildings and towering brick chimneys lining the mighty Merrimack River. Today I had an hour to kill, so I walked around Lawrence with my camera. I only scratched the surface of this most interesting city, which bills itself as the first planned industrial city in the U.S. Once, its mills attracted immigrants from many countries, today, its population is largely Latino.
